Bexleyheath & Barnehurst Bowls Website News 13 June

On Thursday 1 June our Ladies played Orpington in NW Kent Triples League (Division 3) in what proved to be a close encounter. The result was close, with B&B taking 2 points as they lost 36-34 overall; the game along with the final result swung both ways particularly in the final three ends or so.

On 2 June Marion Bunclark and Monica Beeden playing in the ‘Kent Pairs’ beat a pairs team from Hesketh Park 18-11, well down ladies.

Spanish Evening. 2 June 2023
Earlier in the year Julie Warren said that she would introduce some new ideas to add variation to our social agenda. Consequently, on Friday 2 June we held a Spanish Evening that 20 members attended and thoroughly enjoyed various dishes that Julie had sourced, prepared and cooked. Everyone who attended really enjoyed the evening and are waiting for another similar evening. Viva la difference!

On 6 June our Men’s team played Hartley In a Kent BA competition. The Hartley team proved to be a strong opponent although B&B were winning 3-1 after just three ends, the score was 8-8 at the end of the sixth end. From that moment Hartley seemed to win most ends by a shot here, another shot there leading to a victory 18-13.

On 9 June Lesley Fletcher and Jean Aird were at Horton Kirby playing Ladies Pairs in the Bexley Boroughs competition. At 1300 hrs, it was already 21C and it was certainly hot on the shade-less green. Against a strong pair from Horton Kirby, our ladies pair had a tough time, with many decisive measuring decisions; the final score of 28-7 did not truly reflect how the match actually went.

Aussie Pairs Saturday 10 June 2022
On Saturday 10 June, we held this year’s Australian Pairs Day, which saw 24 members playing on what a hot and sunny day. After all the games had been played, Hamish McGregor and Julie Warren were declared winners with Runners Up, Geoff Plume and David Bond a very close second. Then everyone enjoyed a refreshing drink and a selection of nibbles and chatting with fellow members, ‘shooting the breeze’.

On Sunday, 11 June our ladies played away to Danson Park. It was very hot and prior to the game starting it was agreed to restrict the game to just 12 ends. The final score in favour of Danson Park was 24-15 with our ladies winning on one of the two rinks.

A number of our members have entered various external competitions. WebSite News is not able to promise to provide details on every match, although every endeavour will be made to include as many results as practical.

Geoff Plume playing in the Kent Unbadged Singles played his first match on 26 May (away at Hesketh Park) winning 21-7. On 2 June Geoff playing at home beat Kevin Gibson from Cobham 21-18. On 9 June again playing at home Geoff won 22-12 against a player from Horton Kirby.

In the meantime, Phil Moore playing away on 9 June at Cray Cottage, also in the Kent Unbadged Singles, won 23-16 and is scheduled to play in the next round on 16 June. WebSite News wishes Phil and Geoff further success in this competition.

On Tuesday 13 June four of our ladies (Joan Ward, Monica Beeden, Janet Baker and Emma Muscat played in the Senior 4s winning 17-12. Joan Ward commented immediately after the match that it was a “a fab united team effort”. WebSite News adds that talent wins matches and luck is just one component that so often swings both ways. Well done ladies!
