Bowls Coaching

We are fortunate to have two highly qualified coaches at our bowls club: Joan Ward, our Club Captain, and Roy Loft, a long-standing member with many years of experience. Quality coaching in bowls is beneficial for everyone and can significantly enhance players’ skills.

Joan and Roy are particularly supportive of new members, especially those with little or no previous experience of the game. They ensure newcomers gain an early understanding of the basic rules and etiquette, while beginning to develop their bowling technique. As skills improve, the coaches also work to build confidence in a relaxed and encouraging environment.

In the first few weeks, and by mutual agreement, one of our coaches will offer dedicated guidance to help the new player become comfortable with the game before committing to full membership. After this initial period, new members are gently introduced to informal sessions or ‘roll ups’ with other club members, and may even take part in a friendly match against another club—should they wish to.

All coaching is provided free of charge.

Developing Experienced Bowlers

Our coaches are also committed to supporting more experienced bowlers who are looking to refine their technique and deepen their understanding of tactics to elevate their game. Their role is to guide and encourage – never to criticise.

In addition to our qualified coaches, our Club and Vice Captains play an active role in helping members develop by selecting players for various positions, giving individuals the opportunity to grow and gain experience in different roles.

We value and respect every member, recognising the diversity of gender, age, experience, and ability across our club. We firmly believe that with the right coaching and support, everyone has the potential to improve. By working together as a team, we can all continue to develop our skills and enjoyment of the game.

The clubs qualified coaches provide training in basic bowling skills to new members and further support all club members through individual or group skills development sessions
