Bexleyheath & Barnehurst Bowls Website News 21st May

Our Ladies hosted Horton Kirby Ladies on 17 May which was a league game comprising of two games of triples. One of the two teams started strongly leading 6-0 after just three ends. After 13 ends this B&B team were winning 15-7 and never looked like they might lose and eventually won 24-9.  The other B&B team had a far more difficult game leading 5-3 after just 7 ends. By the 13th end, Horton Kirby Ladies had regained the lead and although B&B Ladies won 16th and 17th ends, the desire to win never materialised on this occasion. Overall, B&B Ladies performed well and won by 30-27.  Joan Ward added  “We always enjoy playing our friends from Horton Kirby and it is very pleasing to get a good result overall against such strong opposition.“

Both Men’s teams in the NW Kent Triples League played on Thursday 18 May.

The team in division 6 had a very close match against Duke of Kent (2). Both B&B and Duke of Kent won a game each and both by the same margin, so three points each. The other team in Division 8 found it quite tough even one team was leading by 7-0 early in the match.
Overall B&B(2) lost 37-21, without doubt once again the team will improve over the coming matches.

🎵Oh we do like to be beside the seaside, we do like to beside the sea. 🎵

On Friday some 18 playing members from B&B made their way to Birchington for the annual match against Birchintgton Bowls Club. Some 15 stopped just on the outskirts of Birchington to enjoy fish and chips; how lovely and the size of the portions!

A few minutes further along the road and everyone arrived sufficiently full and looking forward to the afternoon match. The match, using all 6 rinks, started in lovely sunshine with a stiff breeze coming across from the sea, which made it feel cool especially in the shade. Over 18 ends some of the games were very close with the leading team ever changing throughout the match. Overall B&B won 4 games to their 2, with the scoring 110-94 in B&B’s favour. It brought back memories of our win last year. Pete Ward summed it up in one word: “magic’. Talent also came into play, no doubt?
